Isadora AV Step Sequencer

VJ Fader showed off his AV Step Sequencer called Neuromixer VDrum at Lava Session 15. As of yet, he has not released a Mac OS X Version, and I wanted so badly to play with it. So I built a basic Step Sequencer in Isadora.

The setup uses a Pulse Generator to drive a Sequential Trigger actor which in turn triggers a bunch of customized Selector actors. These custom actors contain a 16-Value Selector, with the values simply being the numbers 1-16, which correspond to the movies in my Video Bin. The custom actor also contains a Trigger Value which triggers the current selection to get sent out when it receives input from the Sequential Trigger, and finally a User Input, which is mapped to the Control Panel Interface.

Basically, The Control Panel for this setup is a bunch of vertical radio buttons. Each button selects a number 1-16 that is then stored within the custom Selector actor I created. As the pulse generator sends out triggers, the movies chosen will be played on the stage.

Also, as the videos are chosen, they are sent to a Router which will show a preview of the video above the slot it resides in, so you can track where you are in the sequence. Finally, I created a custom actor called the Video Populator that steps through the movies and gives them thumbnails to the left so you know what is available in your clip library.

It is certainly not a streamlined product, but it’s definitely fun to toy with, and has given me quite a few ideas for further Video Sequencing experiments. Feel free to download and modify!
