LAVA Session 15
We started this time with an overview of the Edirol V-4 and its basic features. Mekanix explained the possibilities for customizing your unit with the extensive menu system – creating your own effects presets and changing the mixmode of the crossfader. We discussed controlling the V-4 through MIDI and hard cut techniques using the T-Bar along with the Transform buttons.
Then VJ Fader introduced his A/V Step Sequencer Neuromixer VDrum.
The software lets you compose A/V scenes using video, audio, and a/v clips, play them live, and export them as their own flattened movies. It was built with Max/MSP and is currently available for FREE, for the Windows platform only. Mac OS X version coming soon.
After a short break, we watched a scene from Syncrosect, a DVD produced by Mr Peculiar and The Shapeshifter.
The visuals consist of high-quality 3-D renders playing in multiple layers, each object tied to a beat or musical phrase. The syncing of the Audio and Video is fantastic, and the style is very fun – bright colors, dancing cg characters and psychedelic backgrounds.
Then Momo the Monster (me) presented an interactive A/V setup. It consisted of a Wireless Playstation 2 dance pad triggering graphics and video through Isadora and audio through Ableton Live. It was a proof-of-concept demonstration, with a full project yet to come.
We ended the presentations with the screening of “4Get Who U R”, the first experimental video release from artist Jason Saunders.
