Son of Semele presents IPHIGENIA CRASH LAND FALLS ON THE NEON SHELL THAT WAS ONCE HER HEART (A RAVE FABLE)

The theatre group Son of Semele is presenting the West Coast premiere of an adaptation of “Iphigenia” by Caridad Svich. It is called Iphigenia Crash Land Falls On The Neon Shell That Was Once Her Heart(a rave fable).

It is a multimedia performance that takes place in a warehouse in downtown L.A. where, before and after the performance the theatre is set up to look like a club. During the performance it turns into an airplane hangar with a (fake) DJ. I’m VJing before and after the show in the (fake) club, so I’m both VJing and pretending to VJ, which means its pretty meta-level stuff, this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 2 and 3).
Anyway, it looks interesting enough, lots of projections and music and definately a chance to meet new people (if you want to pretend to be in a club)! You can buy tickets on this website.
I haven’t seen the whole production, but it looks like something LAVA folks would find interesting.
Here is a post from the Brooklyn Rail.

“The inspiration for her play has its roots in the 1999 murders of the women of Juarez, and the subsequent rage and sorrow that Svich has carried since.”
